ARTS OF THE KINGDOM MUSEUM
THE KOH KERD COLLECTION OF TEXTILES AND KHON COSTUMES
(Near Ayutthaya)
Friday, 18 September 2020
Originally planned as an organic farmland for cultivating garden vegetables, the museum exhibited in the past pictures of Royal Projects and traditional crafts. However, the spacious structures seemed suitable to exhibit the priceless treasures previously housed at the Ananta Samakom Throne Hall in Bangkok and are now displayed in a new wing of the museum that was added for this purpose. It is a novel approach to display fine art and crafts nestled in nature.
Arts of the Kingdom Museum was organized by the Sirikit Institute, displaying selected items, some of which are one of a kind examples of classic masterpieces. Among the numerous items are ornate thrones, items of gold Nielloware, jewelry, fine textiles and khon theater costumes. A highlight is the 9-meter embroidered cloth that boasts the finest of craftsmanship.
The visit will focus on the exhibits of textiles and Khon costumes (in 2 separate buildings).
We shall leave from the Siam Society at 9:00 am sharp; vans will be there from 8:30 am and return around 4:30 pm.
Cost: B1300 for TTS members, B1500 for non-members
Price includes transportation, entrance fee to 2 museums and lunch.
