After the long confinement period imposed by Covid 19, spread your wings and join the Thai Textile Society’s visit to Lampang to celebrate northern textiles.
The program is as follows:
Friday, October 23:
Fly Bangkok to Lampang departing from Suvarnabhumi Airport on Bangkok Airways PG207 11:50 am arrive Lampang 13:20
Check into Pin Hotel
4:00 – Travel by minibus to Mhong Nguoy Siin, Thailand’s 112-year old traditional ‘Gingerbread House’ for Gala Dinner
(Dress code: Thai, Lanna, Burmese, and Mouleman)
4:30 - 6:30 – Reception
Lanna and Myanmar style exhibition (from the Sbun-nga Museum)
Presentation of textiles by Khun Thweep Rittinaphakorn (Ake)
Gala dinner – Lanna cuisine with light and sound show by Sbunnga
Stroll to nearby Wat Pong Sanuk for candle prayer and dedication
Return by minibus to hotel
Saturday, October 24:
6:30 - Leave the hotel by minibus to the old market street. Offer food to the monks
7:30 - Breakfast at Wat Kho. Talk and tour of the temple by Acharn Vithi Phanichphant
9:30 - Visit Baan Mae Daeng to view Acharn Vithi’s lacquer ware collection
10:30 – Shopping for Lanna and Burmese style textiles
11:30 - Lunch at a noodle restaurant
12:30 - Travel by minibus to Wat Jongka and Wat Pa Fang, the latter built by Burmese who came to work in forestry in Lampang. Talk by Acharn Vithi about the history, art and architecture of the temples
2:30 - Visit the house of English lumber merchant Louis T. Leonowens built of teakwood. (Son of Anna Leonowens, English governess of King Rama IV’s children). Afternoon Tea in the front yard
4:00 – Return to Pin Hotel
7:00 – Dinner at a local restaurant.
Sunday, October 25:
Morning:
Komol Antique Textile Museum near Phrae, dedicated to textiles of the various weaving groups in Thailand, established in 1992. Return to Lampang, lunch
Afternoon:
Dhanabadee Ceramic Museum and workshop – founded in 1955 it is known for its chicken design ceramics, especially on bowls.
Wat Phra That Lampang Luang – the 13th century temple is one of the best examples of Lanna style architecture in Thailand and one of the most revered in the country.
Wat Pon Yang Kok – An 18th century temple, beautifully crafted and open sided, nested in the countryside near Lampang.
Return from Lampang to Bangkok departing by Bangkok Air flight PG 206 at 19:00 arrive in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport at 20:35
