Ikat is a remarkable kind of hand-woven textile seen in various countries in Southeast Asia, a weave, which entails complicated techniques, dying and weaving.
Mr.Pathapong Chuenboon, academician at the Ayutthaya Studies Institute Phranakhon, Sri Ayutthaya Rajabhat University specializes in Art History, Ethnic and Folk Culture, and Textiles of Southeast Asia. His talk will focus on the ikat textiles of the region with emphasis on those from Myanmar and Cambodia, and their journey via Siam, discussing the meanings of the patterns that appear on ikat textiles, their background and narrative. Mr. Pathapong is an avid collector and has an impressive collection of ikat textiles, of which he will bring a selection to the lecture. It is a great opportunity to see the fine work of Southeast Asian weavers.
